Alike so many other WEC fans, I can’t hold my excitement today.
The WEC Super Season 2018/2019 is finally taking off tomorrow at Spa-Francorchamps and there’s so much to absorb!
By the end of the season in 2016, I cried my eyes out because my favourite LMP1 car was leaving, Audi that is. By the end of the 2017 season, again, more crying… Porsche was leaving too. Then everybody wondered what on earth was going to happen to the LMP1 class. Will it be Toyota only? Will they leave as well? Not at all.
Tomorrow it’s Race Day at Spa-Francorchamps and the day, we fans, all have been waiting for!
We’ll have 10 LMP1 cars racing. Toyota Gazoo Racing, Rebellion Racing, Dragonspeed, Bykolles Racing, CEFC TRSM Racing and at last SMP Racing. If we consider FP and Qualy times this is going to be interesting this year to say the least. Fernando Alonso is there for Toyota and Jenson Button will also join for SMP for Le Mans and the rest of the WEC calendar.
Now, into the GT class magical, savage universe. 💥
It’s here where I hold my breath and try to tame my excitement.
This year is hell on earth.
So let’s see. Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche and if it wasn’t enough to the heart… BMW.
I’m an Aston Martin supporter and fierce petrolhead. I love the cars, the brand, the drivers… everything! I’m a 100% supporter of the Dane Train (Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen), now with British champion Darren Turner (who I worship!) on board too. So, lime #95 is my darling and #97 too of course. Then there is #98 Pedro Lamy on the LMGTE Am class…
But… I’m also a Porsche, Ferrari and BMW lover… it’s horrible I know. 🙈
I just can’t avoid being happy if my other manufacturer favorite cars, get to podium. I just can’t.
BUT, and this is important… it needs to be podium for my fav drivers. It’s not like… all Ferrari made it… Not at all. It needs to be James Calado and Pier Guidi doing it! Then I’m one happy gal.
Enough of this. You’re not interested in my crazy rambling.
So we have Aston Martin, with the new (out of this world) Vantage and BMW, introducing their M8 in the WEC as they did for IMSA. The only two championships where this amazing and beautiful beast can be seen.
Like I said, I can’t hold my excitement today. It’s going to be so damn good to be back to watching the races (during the day with friends, during the night with my fellow members of Sportscar Portugal), suffer, scream (sometimes in the middle of the night…), sigh, celebrate (or not!) but above all live this passion again this year.
