Michèle Mouton

In an interview to Red Bull, Michèle revealed the following: “I can see now the attraction because I was the only woman at the time in the championship, I would hate it when the journalist would come to me at the end of a rally and say, ‘Can you smile?’ I would say ‘OK, you go and find Blomqvist or Mikkola, ask them to smile and then you come back to me’.” LOVE this!!! By far, Michèle Mouton is the most iconic and inspirational female racing driver of all times. She was the great of the greatest of her time, when Group B cars were so powerful and unpredictable! She started her career with an Alpine- Renault A110 and her good performances quickly led to bigger heights. But it was in 1981 when she signed with Audi as a works driver, that she took over the world stage and showed off her skills with a powerful Quattro in hands. Her team mate by then was the legendary Finn Hannu Mikkola and she got Fabrizia Pons as co-driver. Four WRC victories, Vice FIA World Rally Champion in 1982, nine podium finishes, 160 stage wins, and even a win at Pike’s Peak Hill Climb… and she changed the rules forever by being a winning woman in top-level motor racing. Today Michèle is the FIA Safety delegate overseeing the WRC and is the President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission. Photo © MCKLEIN
